A concert for Raphael Clinic held by Roh Young-sim, a Catholic pianist
Popular Catholic pianist and singer, Marybona Roh Young-sim, has donated free copies of her latest album to a clinic for migrant workers to help it raise funds.
Sophia Kim Woo-kyoung, director of the Raphael Clinic in Seoul, said Roh became sympathetic to the plight of migrant workers after she visited the clinic last June at the invitation of Father Luke Koh Chan-keun, its spiritual director.
Roh recently donated 1,000 copies of her new album containing 14 piano pieces and the clinic is now selling them for 15,000 won (some US$13.5) on its website, Kim said.
Roh also held a piano concert for the clinic’s patients and supporters last December.
There she appealed for support for migrant workers and the clinic, saying that in a multi-cultural society like South Korea, it is important “to open our hearts” to foreigners.
“A warm-hearted word and a small helping hand” is of great help to those who are working for their family in a strange country, she said.
Roh is to hold a concert for multi-cultural families on Jan. 28.
The Raphael clinic’s medical staff will be on hand to provide migrant workers with free medical checkups.
